Hi! Welcome back to a special issue of Spotlight, a fortnightly collection of news, articles and events about organised crime and corruption curated by Firm UK.
After the summer break, we are glad to be back with two events that will see us directly involved.
They will both be held in London in November, so save the date, spread the word, bring along your friends and do not miss them!
We would love to see you there in person after a long time.
We hope you enjoy Spotlight. And if you like it, please share it with your network and invite them to subscribe.
Thank you!
The first event we would like you to invite to attend is “Una Femmina – The Code of Silence”, an audacious feature film about a girl's personal struggle against the 'ndrangheta to reclaim her mother's death.
“Una Femmina” has received various accolades: it was nominated in the Best Screenplay and Best International Feature categories at the 30th Raindance Film Festival. The film, directed by Francesco Costabile, was also nominated at the Berlin Film Festival and at several David di Donatello awards.
The appointment is on Friday, 04th November at 8 pm, at the Garden Cinema, 39-41 Parker Street, London WC2B 5PQ.
Book your place here before it's too late!
The last and second event suggested and promoted by FIRM UK is “Bum ha i piedi bruciati”, a monologue about Sicilian judge Giovanni Falcone, killed by Cosa Nostra in 1992.
Remembering the 30th anniversary of the bomb attacks in which Falcone first and his colleague and lifetime friend, Paolo Borsellino, afterwards lost their lives, alongside members of their police protection, director and actor Dario Leone brings an intense yet ironic show to London.
The show has been sponsored since its beginning by Fondazione Falcone, founded by Giovanni Falcone’s sister, Maria. And it has been widely acclaimed by Borsellino’s brother, Salvatore as well as members of civil society, for telling a story different from the one we are used to knowing. Focusing on the man rather than on the judge, Dario Leone can make the audience laugh and cry at the same time.
The appointment is on Saturday, 12th November 2022 at the Young Actors Theatre, Islington – N1 0ES, 70-72 Barnsbury Rd at 8 pm, with doors opening from 7 pm.
Following the monologue, FIRM UK associate and Professor of Criminology, Anna Sergi, will moderate a Q&A with the director, Dario Leone.
Tickets are 15£ and donations are always welcome. The event is also promoted by Comites Londra, Manifesto di Londra, ANPI Londra, PD Londra, Cinema Italia UK, INCA, and The Italian Bookshop.
